Daniel Daniel Dentistry’s 10 Interesting Facts about Your Teeth

In this post, Atlantic Canada’s most trusted dental office, Daniel Daniel Dentistry, has compiled a list of 10 interesting facts about your teeth!

Few People Have a Complete Set of Teeth

To have a complete set of teeth, you need to have 32 total. Often people think they are an exception if they have fewer teeth, however if you have a complete set you are truly the exception!

The number 32 is an average. Most people around you will have fewer teeth. Many will not have the wisdom tooth and others’ mouths may lack in lateral incisors. And all of this is natural. Still, if you want you can get your missing teeth by consulting Daniel Daniel Dentistry.

Fluoride isn’t Always Good for Dental Health

Does it come as a shock? It should. Although fluoride helps to keep your teeth healthy, an excessive amount of this chemical can damage your shinny white teeth beyond a repair. It can make them porous and create a whole lot of problems. Using toothpaste with fluoride is still very important!

Enamel is Your Body’s Hardest Substance

Yup, you heard it right. There is a transparent layer that surrounds your teeth and this layer is the hardest, the toughest part of your body. But that does not mean it’s indestructible.

Consuming lots of sugar-rich foods, acidic substances and injuries can damage, break, chip and crack the enamel.

Tongue and Lip Piercings aren’t Good for Your Teeth

Tongue piercings are not a harmless fashion statement. They can slowly damage your teeth by producing chips and cracks on the enamel.

Sugar isn’t the Only Reason of Teeth Damage

Although sugar receives the most flak, it is not the only substance that is harmful to your teeth. Acidic foods with a low pH value, such as fruit juices, can soften the enamel and erode it.

Your Mouth Has More Than 700 Bacteria Types

Do not worry, not all of them are harmful. In fact, most bacteria in your mouth are classified as “probiotics,” which provide protection to your teeth and gums; however if you fail to brush and floss, bad bacteria can grow and cause cavities in your teeth!

Teeth are like Fingerprints

Bet you did not know this one! Even twins’ teeth are not identical and differ in their structure. This probably gives you one more reason to love your pearly whites.

Visible Teeth are the Tip of the Iceberg

About one-third of your teeth are hidden in the gums. For this reason, Daniel Daniel Dentistry always recommends its patients to care for their gums as well as teeth. Visiting your dentist and dental hygienist for a cleaning and check up at least twice a year is recommended for keeping your oral health in top notch shape!

  1. Very nice people. Very good dentists.

They are really great at looking at the conditions of previous fillings, something other dentists don’t do a lot of. They prevented problems rather than just responding to them.
